NaNOWriMo 2024 day 16 update – writing three interlinking books at once

If you don’t know about NaNOWriMO and/or don’t understand why I would be doing it, especially after the recent controversy, please see my previous post: https://arrowmakerbooks.com/2024/10/31/nanowrimo-2024-why-im-taking-the-challenge-despite-the-ai-controversy/.

I’m pleased to report the wheels have not fallen off (yet). 1,667 words per day seemed unlikely before I began, but I haven’t lapsed once so far, and aim to keep that streak going throughout now I’m past halfway.

Some days can feel like the words are floating in front of me, waiting to be plucked and written down; other days can feel like the words are tiny gnats all flying different directions, each needing to be caught individually. The two days per week I need to go into the office for my day job are the toughest.

Here’s my stats for the past 7 days:

What am I writing?

I’m working on draft 2, of part 2, of volume 2, of The Spike, the follow-up to my debut.

Volume 1 was two separate stories that interlinked, told from the perspective of three characters.
Volume 2 is three separate stories that interlink, told from the perspective of seven characters.

I sometimes wonder why I had to make it so difficult for myself, but the answer is always the same: this is the way the story needs to be told.
Volume 2 picks up where Volume 1 left off: Hector and Nick are on the run; the Third Law’s legacy is fought over; and the Steering Committee looms over everyone and everything.
If I can pull it off, it should be special.

Social media changes coming soon

As many are saying, Twitter (I will not call it X) has become more and more toxic since Musk took over, and I think I’m going to close my account on there once this challenge is over.

I’m investigating other options so keep your eyes open for me popping up on other platforms.
